they wouldn't tell me the decision on the phone - is this good or bad news (or normal?). I thought a few people had been told over the phone of the outcome....

thanks
Congratulations.. It should be a good decision.. no body knows the outcome over phone.. I hope I hear good news as yours soon

Relatively painless and quick:
Spousal visa - ILR - Citizenship
3 years residency
Received approval letter 1.5 weeks sending application & supporting documents
2 weeks to get all my documents back
3 weeks to receive the ceremony date, time & place invitation
5 weeks to attending the ceremony
Now for the Passport application time....

Thanks everyone for posting your information on this forum. It's been extremely useful in finding out information.

Incidentally, after lots of frustration pressing the correct buttons to get through to Liverpool processing centre and always getting a recorded message, I confirmed all requirements on the application through choosing the option on the keypad to talk to someone about the status of my application. It was the only way to get to someone live.

Nationality Checking Service

Post by green_express » Tue Mar 22, 2011 5:32 pm

Is it worth using this service for British Citizenship Applications through your local council ? I understand your documents are given back to you and don't have to be sent to the UKBA in this instance, has anybody used this service and if so how long did your application take ?

It was £100 for the private one, paid directly to Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

It varies with different council. Mine charged me £25 only.

Joint Application (husband and wife)

myself: 5 year WP + 1year ILR
Husband: 2 years student visa + 2 years spouse Visa + 1 year ILR

NCS or Postal: Postal
Date of submission: 01/03/2011
Date reached HO: 02/03/2011
Date of Debit Card deduction: 5/03/2011
Date of receipt of acknowledgment letter: 08 /03/2011 (12/03/2011)
Date UKBA made decision: 18/03/2011
Date of receipt of approval letter: 23/03/2011
Date of receipt of Ceremony Invitation letter: awaiting invitation lette

My personal experience and opinion:

1) postal application was quicker compared to NCS
2) Initially tried to apply through NCS but i was asked unwanted documents and provided inaccurate information.
3) Joint application: It is possible to apply jointly if the spouse spent 5 years with the any combination of visas ex:(2 years student visa + 2 years spouse Visa + 1 year ILR)

Many thanks i got more accurate and good info from ImmigrationBoard Moderators and senior members compared to NCS staff!!!!!

Guys keep up the good work!!!

Regards

Application for Naturalisation

Post by VSAndroid » Thu Mar 24, 2011 1:28 pm

Hello All,

I have got my appointment at NCS this saturday. I am slightly worried they would NOT accept my application because I have a traffic offence.

Back in 2009, I failed to stop at the red light - It was yellow and as soon as I went it turned red.

Anyhow - I recieved 3points on my licence and £60 Fixed penality notice which I paid straight away. I have not been convicted or taken to court.

I have got no other offence or involvement with police.

Should I be worried?

I have been here since 2003 and have held Permanent Residency for over 1 year.

My father is portuguese and my mother is Indian. And I am applying for Naturalisation for British Passport.

I have read the Good Character requirement and I understand it would count as a minor offence and therefore will be ignored.

But I still need some confirmation from someone who has been in this situation.

Thanks!
Vipul

I think , u r okay, if NCS refuse u can send application by post, One traffic conviction in 12 month without going to court would be okay in my opinion

You will be fine. I had 2 speeding offence (fixed penalty) they accepted my application on 17th. last week.

Now just waiting for HO to make a descision really. i applied through NCS Birmingham.

I cant believe they were sitting on application for 3 days and finally decided to send it on 21st. Postal rout is quicker. By the way it was NCS Birmingham just in case if anyone wants to know.

What company shows on account when HO deducts £780? I want to inform my bank so they won't block it for fraud protection.

Finally, after 7yrs in Queensland, I get on the BC waiting list.

Criteria - 2yrs Working Holiday Maker + 4yrs HSMP JR + 1yr ILR (Director of Ltd Company in last 1yr)
Submitted at NCS Southwark - 23rd March, 2011
Received at HO - 24th March, 2011
Debit Card debited - 28th March, 2011
Acknowledgement Letter Received -
Approval Letter Posted -
Approval Letter Received -

The NCS personnel said it's a busy time because many people want to send in their application before the new fees take effect, and that there are many applications HO is dealing with and that generally application takes no more than 8weeks during this period.

Well, I better hope mine won't take more than 4weeks, else the waiting will drive me nuts.

5th week and no clue about the status of application

Post by Gul » Fri Mar 25, 2011 12:04 pm

Its really frustrating,
today its 5th week completing since i filed by application via NCS
i called HO today and they replied
we cant tell u any things because your application is less then 6 month.

I think Postal is the best way to file the application

hmm.... majority of the applications approved in March were Postal.

(Posted on behalf on another who is not a member)

CRITERIA - EEA national (Spanish)(exercising treaty right for 5 years- Half as worker and half as self sufficient. Had not applied for PR using EEA 3)
Type - NCS Southport
Date of submission - 07/03/2011
Date reached HO – 08/03/2011
Date of debit of credit card - 11/03/2011
Date of receipt of acknowledgement - 17/03/2011 ( dated 11/03/2011)
Date of receipt of approval - 25/03/2011 (dated 18/03/2011)
Date of Ceremony - TBC

Amazing! That is a total of 19 days from submission till the day the approval was received. If only all the other departments of the HO was as efficient as their Nationality Directorate. Not in a hurry for the oath and the passport due to other commitments.

This site was a life saver as always. Did not have to top up on the ransom that was the fees on the 0845 number, positive results after speeding offence, got strenght to apply without the PR sticker in the passport (Thanks 'noodles'!), did not panic at 'A decision has been made and the letter has been posted via 3rd class delivery and we will not tell you the decision over the phone; So, your week of stress starts now' etc all because of the contributions of posters on this forum. Many thanks. Best of luck for everyone else who has not been as lucky as I.
Jabi
