post study work application

If a post study work visa has been granted, when is the 2 years added. Is it from the date the PSW visa was given or from the date ur previous visa expires.

For example if i apply for a PSW visa in march 2011 and im granted one then and lets say my visa expires in october 2011. Do i have 2 yrs added from october or from march.?
