Knowlege of life Vs Knowledge of language and life

I really apologise if it's been asked before.
My history: HSMP Feb 2008 & Tier 1 Feb 2010

I just got a couple of question regarding KOL test. As per current requirements do we need pass 'knowledge of language and life in the UK' or just 'Life in the UK' (Whats the difference?)? On UKBA website it says

If you are not exempt from the KOL requirement, you must demonstrate a good knowledge of language and life in the UK before you apply for settlement. Most applicants will need to do this by:
passing the 'Life in the UK' test, if they speak English to a reasonable standard; or
taking and passing a course in English and citizenship, if they do not speak English.

Now, how to prove if I speak English to a reasonable standard? I did IELTS in 2008 is that sufficient?

Also, is there any requirement for dependants of Tier 1 (G) holders?

Either KOL (Life in the Uk) or ESOL. You don't need both, but you do need one of them.

Anyone who registered for ESOL before 23.11.2010 can only use the ESOL qualification as a proof of Knowledge Of Life (KOL) in the UK. Everyone else(except the categories that are exempt) must take a KOL test. . Details here

For spouses who are under ESOL Entry level 3 ESOL certificate is ok.
Those who apply under HSMP JR are exempt from KOL.

The below is an extract from my KOL pass certificate

.... Your success at this test also demonstrates that your level of competence in English meets the required standard for naturalisation or Indefinte leave to remain. No further proof of this is needed

Section 4 of the SET(O) application:

From 6th April 2011, main applicants who are in Tier 1 or Tier 2 of the points based system and certain work permit categories must demonstrate that they have passed the “Life in the UKâ€

Sorry if I am behaving stupid but still not clear.

I am eng. graduate from india with graduation in english which I proved for Tier1.

As per my understanding I need to give 2 exams -
Knowledge of Language - ESOL level 3
Life in the UK requirement

please correct if I am wrong.

I am due for ILR in 4 months.
do i need to enrol for ESOL or direct exam attempt?

how other people are planing, who are also in ILR queue for coming months?

Direct Life in the UK test, unless you enrolled on an ESOL with citizenship course or gained an ESOL with citizenship qualification before 23 November 2010.
