Applying in person / vs through post

Hi all,

I need to apply for Tier 1 extension . Current Tier 1 visa valid till 8th september 2011. Original visa was given in September 2008. Please correct me if I am wrong:

1. The age points will be the same as the initial application( I was under 28 years , so got 20 points, will claim 20 points).
2. I had a Master's degree, so got 35 points. Will claim same 35 points.
3. That means i need additional 20 points in salary and experiance. I have been in full time employment for the last 1 year and salary is above the Â£23000 mark to get the remaining 20 + 5 points.
4. have funds of Â£800 or more for the last 3 months.
5. Degree was taught in a UK univ.

Can I apply now when my visa is still valid for 4 months.
I am thinking of applying in person what are the advantages/disadvantages of applying in person vs through post.
Do you guys see any reason my application may be refused.

Thanks for the reply.
it seems I can apply now if i want to( 4 months in advance).
My other question was regarding applying in person(in PEO most probably croydon). Has anyone tried this or had any bad experiances with it. I have heard there is no right of appeal if the application is rejected. In case of any documents missing, will they reject my application or give me a chance to reapply (without deducting the fees).

yet another odd question.
Provided i do get an extension(by God's grace), my 5 years workPermit + tier 1 visa will be completed in December 2012. I was initially granted a Workpermit in Dec 2007 but switched to Tier 1 in September 2008.

My 10 year legal stay in UK happens to be completing roughly at the same time(in february 2013).

When applying for ILR, which route is the preferred one , the 5 years Tier 1 one or the 10 year legal stay.

Whether you apply by post or in-person, your application will be assessed according to the same immigration rules, the same caseworker guidance (if the caseworker needs to refer to it) and will be subject to the same legal requirement(s) if refused (e.g.- right to appeal).

I have another question. I was granted work permit in december 2007, then switched to Tier 1 general in September 2008. Now when I apply for extension will I be given a 2 year Tier 1 visa or a tier 1 visa till december 2012(as then when my 5 year work related visas will be completed).
I assume the 5 year ILR rule can apply to a mixture of both work permits and Tier 1 visas. If I am granted a 2 year tier 1 visa,can I then apply for ILR in december 2012.

The time you spent in UK as WP migrant has no relevance to the period of grant of Tier 1 (General) leave.

If your initial grant of Tier 1 (General) was for 2 years, then extension should be granted for 3 years. If it was 3 initially, then extension should be for 2.

What about the ILR date. Am I eligible to apply in december 2012(when my 5 years of WP + tier 1 visa is completed) . Or do i have to wait till september 2013(when my tier 1 only 5 years is completed).
