If your passport doesnt arrive, that means you will be unable to work since you will not have permission to work in the UK on an australian passport with no work permit.amy20 wrote:I am supposed to start work 2 June, but my british passport hasn't arrived and apparently takes up to 6 weeks to process. Im flying over to London 24 May. What am I going to do, does anyone know what I can do if my passport doesn't arrive back to me?
Will this mean i am unable to start work 2 June?
Currently i only have an Australian Passport, no Visa.
The british high commision, british embassy and Aus Post has not been any help to me at all. I am starting to panick now
I am not quite sure that is correct. The instant you got British Citizenship, you had the right to live and work in the UK without restriction. A British passport is merely a travel document that demonstrates your citizenship. As long as you can show that your are a citizen of the UK, you can work. If this were not true, then anybody, including native-born citizens, would need to provide a passport just to work in the UK (which seems nonsensical).terriblescream wrote:If your passport doesnt arrive, that means you will be unable to work since you will not have permission to work in the UK on an australian passport with no work permit.amy20 wrote:I am supposed to start work 2 June, but my british passport hasn't arrived and apparently takes up to 6 weeks to process. Your British passport will be the right to work and live in the UK. You can simply visit the UK on your australian passport..

I do wonder however: Isn't it a legal requirement for all British citizens to show a UK travel document when entering the UK?
No it is not a legal requirement, many UK nationals have dual citizenship.ouflak1 wrote:terriblescream wrote:amy20 wrote: I do wonder however: Isn't it a legal requirement for all British citizens to show a UK travel document when entering the UK?
Not anymore she can't, the Rules now state you cannot hold both the certificate of a Right of Abode and a British passport at the same time. So if she wishes to pursue the right of abode she will have to withdraw her passport application.sushdmehta wrote:Alternatively, in absence of a British passport being issued in time, OP may apply for "right of adobe" endorsement in the Australian passport.
