UKBA operates 24/7 365 days a year and an extra day on leap years. I imagine caseworkers do not go to work on the bank holidays as is normal for desk jobs in the civil service. I also know that civil servants get an extra half day off for Maundy Thursday. If the caseworkers were sensible they used a few days annual leave and had a really loooooong break from work like I did. I doubt that UKBA was closed, just thin on the ground like just about every other employer in the UK.
