English test or course

Post by The Husband » Sat May 07, 2011 12:32 am

Am i right to understand from the new updated list of engilsh test providers, that people will no longer be able to just book a test. But will now have to sit in a course?

You're confused the type of test. The ESOL option is for settlement or BC and has always required studying on a course...unlike the Life in the UK test.
UKBA website: ESOL test providers for settlement and citizenship applicants.
You can still choose to book a Life in the UK test (KOL).
The other test mentioned in the updates to providers is this:
Providers of tests for migrants applying under the points-based system or as partners...which is an English test, not a test of Knowledge of Life in the UK.

Sorry what i ment was the A1 English settlement visa requierment.

Do we need to sit in a course for that, or can you just book a test if your English is already good enough?

ESOL isn't an option as an alternative to the A1 English test. ESOL is for ILR and British Citizenship.
What visa application are you submitting?

indefinite leave to enter (ILE) is the one im talking about.

Do we have to do a coures for a A1 level english certficate or can we just apply for the test and is that test only an ESOL now.or what?

I think you are confused

A1 English is for limited leave to enter/remain with a view to settlement (two year spouse visa).

Knowledge of Language and Life in the UK (either ESOL with citizenship element or Knowledge of Life in the UK test) is required for Indefinite leave to enter/remain as the spouse of a settled person.

Ok i understand now, the confusion was the use of the word (settlement) i thought the word was used for ILE and ILR!

Anyway thankyou both.
