Provisional Driving licence in the UK

Post by baskey » Fri Jul 02, 2004 4:49 pm

Dear All,

I have applied for Provisional driving licence 4 weeks ago and still neither received my licence nor my passport. I have asked them for expected time by email but reply was that they never want to tell apprx.expected time or application status etc.. (despite their catalogue says 15 working days) and simply telling that due to heavy rush it takes longer than normal time.

Is there any one have applied first week of June or still waiting more than 4 weeks like me ? I am afraid as some people loosing their passport in this issues.

It is a terrrrrrrible here in the UK!

Regards,

since you applied for the license, I would like to know some facts about provisional license.

- do you need to give any practical test for it ?
- It lasts for how many months ?
- With prov. license in hand, can we buy a car ?
- What are the rules if you already have another country license(for eg. india /saudi]
- what is the overall cost, including courier and other costs.

thankx

I applied on the 21st of July, passport came on the 2nd of August while licence came yesterday 7th of August. Less than 14 working days. I used special dilevery for to and fro.
An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

You can only drive with a provisional driving licence when:

1. Accompanied by a person aged 21 or more who has held a UK / EU licence for more than three years. -and-
2. You display "L" plates. -and-
3. You drive on a road which is not classified as a motorway.

Driving otherwise than the above will render you liable to criminal prosecution for:

1. Driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.
2. Driving uninsured (as your insurance is invalid)

You don't need to show any licence before you buy a car.

BTW,

In the first year of your residence you can freely drive with your foreign licence.

Also don't forget to put your hands on the steeringwheel.
