P45 as an official tax document

Post by satn » Mon May 23, 2011 11:49 pm

Hi All,

Has anyone applied successfully with a P45 instead of a P60.

I dont have a P60 because I left my previous employer on 31st March 2011, i.e before the end of the financial year(April 5th).

However my P45 covers the entire claim period.

The guidance notes talk of P60 as an official tax document. I am not sure if the P45 enjoys a similar status.

Any suggestions...

Should be fine. But note that your P45 is considered the same source with your payslips. So if you submit P45 and payslips they are count as 1 evidence. Not 2.

Thanks.

But isnt that the case for P60 as well. P60 also is issued by the employer.

Yep same P60 and salary slip is considered as 1 source. Not 2.

Source 2 should be your personal bank statements, reflecting the exact amount of income claimed from the other source (tax documents or payslips).

I have same situation. My employer was paying cash not into bank account.

What could be 2nd evidence. Thanks

Proof that you put the cash in the bank. Otherwise you don't qualify - surely you have gone through this once before to know the requirements?
Do not send me PM's with specific questions - post question in the open forum so others can also benefit from the answers.

Thanks for your reply.

No i did not know that. I was all the tine self employed only this time i had to show salaried income.

I thought p45 or p60 are classed ad tax documents although employer issues them.

There has to be a way for that, simply it was paid in cash not through my bank account.

Please advise. Thanks

P45 will not be accepted in place of a P60. A P45 is considered to be a document given when you have left employment. It is not part of the required evidence. You run a risk submitting that as evidence.

You could call HMRC & ask for a employment history, which shows all earning you received as PAYE. I requested one last week and it came in weeks time.

But that will not show his Gross & Net earnings as stated in guidance. And will not cover the period claimed for.

If you can't find 2 corroborating pieces of evidence that are from separate sources then you need to find an alternative source of income or apply in a different category.
