Does an EEA2 allow entry to Malta?

Post by Bijou » Sat Jun 04, 2011 10:34 am

Hi,

I tried to find out myself but couldn't. I am Austrian and hold a residence card in the UK (EEA1), my husband has the EEA2 residence card (they stuck it his passport), can he enter Malta with his EEA2 or does he still require a visa?. I tried the Maltese visa website, it took me no where.

Please help :( as is Mom is very sick and he needs to see her soon...

Will you be travelling together or will he go alone? What passport/nationality does your husband hold?

This appears to be the Maltese London site for information and visa application information and seems to be quite informative.
Husband issued with an EEA FP via Surinder Singh and various complications :)

I am Austrian, he is Libyan, holds a Libyan passport with the EEA2 sticker on.
He's going to travel alone.

If travelling alone, he will need to apply for a Visa, pay the fee (60 Euros) and provide all the documentation required. It seems that Visas are processed at the High Commission in London and there is a phone number to call to make an appointment as well as a downloadable application form here.

If you were to be travelling with him however, he would be able to enter Malta without a visa on the basis that he holds a valid EEA residence card of an EU Member state (ie, the UK EEA2). It is stated on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Malta that they recognize and uphold this part of EU Law.

According to the law the fee has to be paid, however, in 2008 the >>Maltese Embassy in Dublin<<, advised otherwise.

hope it helps,
