Border Crossings Question

Post by vmulberry » Sun Jul 23, 2006 9:39 am

If someone crosses the US/Mexico land border and has no i.d. what are their options?

If they are a LPR and have no i.d. how can they prove their status?

As a minimum likley refusal to enter the US unless secondary inspection indicates you have a relevant visa or are a USC where you will then be paroled. At worst you get put in jail, deported and banned from re-entry especially if you are not truthful to the inspector including a false representation/ declaration of US citizenship.

If they are a LPR and have no i.d. how can they prove their status?
DHS have your details on file including biometrics as relevant. Secondary inspection will reveal the truth. See my comment above.

Thanks that makes me feel a lot better. I didn't know if they had any way of checking, but obviously they must. My mom says of course they will look up your DMV record or college record or something and be able to verify you but I was very doubtful.

The biometric thing is even better. I don't know what it's like everywhere else, but in California I had my thumb print taken for my driver's license or maybe it was my index (it was a long time ago now) so I knew they must have it somewhere and if the border patrol can log into that then surely they can ok my entry without my i.d.

I know it must happen all the time so there is protocol in place, but my fear was that they would just leave me in Mexico forever!

Thank you. You've been really helpful and I'm so less stressed about that one.
