API and ESTA

Post by PaulM » Fri May 27, 2011 7:00 pm

I have a South African passport with a US 10 year holiday visa in the old passport which I will be carrying with the new passport. I have just purchased a trip to the USA for 2 weeks. The travel agent was telling me about API and ESTA, isn't this only for visa free countries? Surely my 10 year visa will be enough plus the mandatory chat with immigration at the airport at the airport? Also I wanted to make sure that it was okay that the visa is in the expired passport (visa is valid until 2013). Any info would be appreciated, I'm stressed now.

Thanks

APIS - for everyone.
ESTA - for all passengers traveling under the Visa Waiver Program.

Where do I fill in APIS? Thanks for your help thus far.

not sure if you are still looking for the answer to this. but API is usually collected by the airline you are flying with to the US. Some ask you for the information before you check in whilst others will take the information at check-in
