Is anyone else having trouble working out which SOC code?

Post by luckyroll » Sat Jul 16, 2011 2:39 pm

I have my ILR appointment coming up at Croydon.

I thought it was enough to have an employer letter saying that my salary complies with the relevant Code of Practice, but now I understand that the letter must specify the SOC code that applies.

My work permit predates the point system and so I never had to work out what SOC code.

I cant for the life of me work out which SOC code:
- environmental engineer with 15 years experience
- work in the private sector for a scientific/engineering consultancy
- specialise in strategy and policy in the area of energy and climate change.

Looking here, where the list of Codes of Practice are: http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... duate-cop/, I would perhaps fit under COP M- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services. But Im a strategy/policy consultant, I dont work in a lab or design mechanical things.

All the SOC codes are listed here: http://www.ons.gov.uk/about-statistics/ ... index.html, but are similarly not fitting to my job.

I would be every so grateful for any thoughts.

many thanks
