Permanent Residence Card Application question - Pasport back

Hi all, just a quick few question.

I will be applying on the basis of EUFam4 in October

When I apply, and I submit all the documentation, plus Passport x 2, do they keep passports for the duration, or can we get it back sooner?

As, the wife needs her approx 1 month after I will apply, ( November) and, I will need mine also before the 6 moth timeframe they mention

Or, do they keep it, and we have to cancel all plans for that 6 months?

Also, does it take 6 months, or longer? to get an answer? for LTR/ Permanent Residence Card

Please read the form and explanatory leaflet.

It stats they return the passports and original documents within 1 month.
If you require to get them back faster attach a letter with your application form and give reason.

I sent them mine as i was traveling and in 2 weeks i got them back.

I fo have the form,( FORM EU3) to fill in, but for the life of me, I cant find any leaflet?
