Post by herman404 » Thu Mar 23, 2006 4:35 pm

Hi everyone, I got a brochure from the Home Office detailing the changes in the immigration law. Here are the points qualifications for the Tier 1 (currently known as HSMP) status:

Pass mark is 75 points

Education:
Bachelors: 30 points
Masters: 35 points
PhD: 40 points

Previous earnings in thousands of pounds per annum
(UK or equivalent 1st world country)

£16-18: 5 points
£18-20: 10 points
£20-23: 15 points
£23-26: 20 points
£26-29: 25 points
£29-32: 30 points
£32-35: 35 points
£35-40: 40 points
£40+: 45 points

Age
27 or under: 20 points
28 or 29: 10 points
31 or 31: 5 points

If previous educaitonal qualifications or earnings in the UK: 5 points

Once I have time, I will get to posting the criteria for the new Tier 2 (workpermit) criteria in the other board, check out the poll below!

Cheers,
Herman

You can have a look at this information at

www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk/working_in_the_uk/ en/homepage/news/announcements/a_points-based_system0.html

but this website is so slow..
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star.

I noticed that the point for earnings is for UK or 1st world, does this also apply for 3rd world? Current HSMP have bands for 3rd world countries.
An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind.

The original posting was incorrect in one aspect.
PhD will give 50 point

But the age concession looks too much!!!

It is same as post #1.
Just the PhD point was incorrect.

However, the document said it is not final yet.

So they are FINALLY going to give points to people who have previous work and earning experience in the UK huh? Bout time!! I love how I get the points under this new system, but was rejected under the old one for massive caseworker stupidity. THAT is good news!

it is definitetly good for other people all around the world with a good salary. It is sometimes problem to take referance letter from managers. I have no idea how will i request for such a letter from my boss :) But in other hand proving your earnings , age and your age is simple because they based on documents .

i also feel age conssession is very big. Just because a person is 32 doesn't mean he is old or should be awarded 0 points for age (diff of 20 is huge)

I appreciate removal of experience point. However, age relaxation is just too much!

So they're no considering WORK EXPERIENCE anymore and rely on the salary instead? If this has been announced and effective before I sent my application on 08/01, it'll make my life MUCH easier! I won't have to scavenge for all those employment letters.

It's good that they put emphasis on salary rather than job descriptions, since job descriptions varies greatly and too vague, causing the case worker to take a long time to decide on the case and/or give the wrong points.

On the other hand, I wish that HO will consider the fact that most 1st world country, ESPECIALLY US, use electronic formats for most salary-type documents. This include payslip (since eveyone do direct deposit), bank statements and W-2 form (tax). I know that HO said that these documents can be printed on regular A4 paper, as long as it bears a stamp/signature from the authorizing body such as HR. But in reality, NOT many company willing to do that and they almost likely ask "WHY". From the side of the applicant, many won't dare to say the real reason and have to chicken up some story.

I know some of my friends who're applying for HSMP just backed out completely for getting this so-called HR stamp and just opt for bank statements. I did the same, because HR didn't want to give their signature UNLESS I can provide a compelling reason WHY they need to do so, given that a printed payroll slip is considered as a legal document and the entity that is checking these can always call my company.

The document is still under consultation and has not been finalized. Our friend Heman is jumping the gun. Once finalized it will be implemented from April 2007
