ILR set(0) payment question-- urgent

Post by mac456 » Thu Jul 28, 2011 8:09 pm

Hi All,

I am applying for ILR by post using SET(O) form.

The page 2 of SET(O) says following about payment:
----------------------
HOW CAN YOU PAY?
You must pay by one of the methods specified below.
• Cheque
• Postal Order
• Credit card - Visa (including Electron), MasterCard
or American Express (Amex)
• Debit card - Delta, Maestro* (including Solo)
• Banker’s draft (payable to the Home Office)
----------------------------

I have a VISA DEBIT card from Lloyds TSB ( its VISA but not credit card )
The above guidance says: "Debit card - Delta, Maestro* (including Solo)"

What should I do, should I use my VISA DEBIT or use other method? please advice?

Has anyone tried VISA DEBIT ( not VISA CREDIT card ) for postal application of SET(O) and was it accepted?

Please reply soon, need to submit application on Monday 1 Aug 2011.

I think Visa Debit Card should be fine. However to me on safe side please give a quick call to home office and sortout this thing with them.

with regards,

I think I will go with Banker's Draft, it looks to me a safe way to make payment?

I used a Banker's Draft when I posted my SET(O) on 18.07.11. Surprisingly the acknowledgement letter was issued on the same day of receiving the application by UKBA i.e. 19.07.11.
It looks like if you use Banker's Draft or Postal Order it reduces at least a week or two or sometimes three weeks waiting. I have come across some cases, in this forum, where UKBA took 2-3 weeks to take the payment and issue the acknowledgement letter. I would definitely recommend Banker's Draft (NatWest charged me £12 regardless of the amount).

A Postal Order of £972 could cost you a fortune.

mac456 there are a number of posts about paying by Visa debit if you search. The Home Office has said that it isn't a problem, I paid by one this week and it was fine. Good luck on Monday.
