What's my application process?

Post by chamelion » Tue Aug 09, 2011 11:52 am

Hey all,

First to give you my background:
- Entered UK as student in Sept 2005
- Changed to SEGS visa Oct 2006
- Changed to HSMP visa Sept 07
- Changed to Tier 1 visa Oct 09, valid until Oct 12

I've been reading up on ILR / Citizenship. From my understanding, I can apply for ILR 5 years after I started with my HSMP, i.e. I can apply for ILR in Sept 2012.

Question is around citizenship. The website says that to be eligible for naturalisation you need to have lived here for 5 years and have an ILR. Does that mean that as soon as I get my ILR I can apply for citizenship, which can take 6 months or more?

you have to have held the ILR for 365 days.. from the 366th day you are eligible to apply for citizenship which can take up 6 months but are processed faster than that advertised!
