Working during application time

Post by gwagoo » Tue Aug 23, 2011 2:28 am

Hi all

I was wondering - are we allowed to work on probation whilst we wait for the psw application result to come back? The student visa allows full time work but not in a permanent position, so how about on a probationary basis?

Thanks in advance for the replies.

Hi,

You're right. You're not allowed to work if the position is a permanent one. However you are allowed to work full time if the position is a temporary or fixed term one, or if your contract states it's a temporary or fixed term one, provided the job starts AFTER your official course end date.

Hope this helps

What is the definition of a permanent position in this context? I'm applying for a position that is on a one-year contract (with 4 months left on my student visa): would this be classed as permanent?
