No impediment to marriage certificate & translation serv

Post by littlebush » Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:52 pm

Hi
My fiance is Russian. We get married in a month but she needs a 'no impediment to marriage' certificate from Russia.
Have googled it and no idea where to get one from or even if its possible to get such a document in Russia.

The form states that not all countries do them and so need to explain this on the marriage form if thats the case.

Anyone know how to get one in Russia?

Also, this and the birth certificate need officially translating.
Anyone know if a translation company has to be a member of some translation organisation in order for it to be 'officially translated'?

Thanks for your time

D.

It's common to need this for marriage overseas but you don't need a non-impediment to marry in the UK; it's not necessary and nor is it asked for. You make your declarations to the registrar at the time of the marriage.

hi, thanks, but am confused as the form we have to complete for the scottish registrar states:

if you are domiciled in another country, outside the uk, you should provide a certificate of no impediment to marriage, issued by the competent authority there, to the effect that you are free to marry. most european countries issue certificates but other countries may not. however if you are now resident in the uk and have lived here for the last 2 years or more you need not submit such a certificate.

my fiance has a fiance visa and so could be classed as 'domiciled' in the uk, depends on the interpretation....but then shes not been here 2 years, so am still confused
thanks

Sorry, I did not take notice of the Gretna Green part of your post. Scotland has different rules to the rest of the UK. Do you live there or merely wish to marry there? You can marry in England and Wales without this.

The simple solution would be to get married where you live. What motivation would you have to marry in Gretna Green other than for the novelty of following an old tradition?
