My partner was granted DLR recently and he wants to apply for NINO for work purposes. We contacted job centre and they said he has to do it through tax credits which doesn't make any sense but we rang them anyway. They didn't know what we were talking about but said they'd transfer it to specialist team. We called job centre again and they said tax office need to fill out a DCI form. I'm confused. Tax credits don't have anything to do with it. When my partner didn't have any status he was sent for two NINO interviews and both were refused. He has a temp number on the tax credits claim form but now that he has leave to remain he should be able to easily get one but how? Any advice would be great.

Have a look at this HMRC webpage.

You mention a "temporary" NI number being used for Tax Credits purposes. I certainly do not want you to post the whole number, but could you please post the first two letters? Are they TN, or something else?

How long ago was he added to the Tax Credits claim?
