UK visitor visa for 1 year

Post by chashmebaddur » Fri Sep 16, 2011 7:01 pm

Hello,
We are planning to submit visitor visa for my parents from India, and appreciate if someone provide us guidance on following:

1)My parents had already visited us in UK last year with 6 month validity visa, now this time we would like to have them here in UK with 1 year validity visa.
We did some research online to check whether UK border agency in India issues visa for 1 year but couldn't find anything, the only option available on their website is '' Visa validity for 2 years''.

Can someone please provide us information on whether the UK border agency issues Visitor Visa for 1 year validity??

Thanks
Chashmish

The UK issues visit visa for 6mts, 2, 5 and 10 years. Long term visas are issued on a discretionary basis to seasoned travelers who have a good track record. The length of the validity for visas that are valid for more than 6 months has nothing to do with the period of time a person may remain in the UK. Visitors are not permitted to stay more than six out of any given cycle of 12 months. So, in essence, having a long term visa is merely like being a person from the a country where there is no need to pre-apply for a UK visit visa before you travel. If your parents get a long-term visa, enter the UK and stay more than six months they will be in breach of UK immigration laws.

Hi Lucapuka,

Thank u for ur reply.

Just to double check...

if we apply for 2 years visa.. and let them visit europe before or around the end of month 6 and then allow them to re-enter - does that mean they are not in any breach of stay?

Please guide.

Thx

If they enter the UK and stay for six months, then leave and re-enter after only a short break in France, and expect to remain in the UK another six months, their re-entry will be very much at the discretion of the Border Force officer. If they don't have excellent reasons for effectively trying to live in the UK on the status of a visitor they may not be allowed back in (in spite of having a valid visa for re-entry).
