schengen visa German via Belguim

Post by wayblock » Sun Sep 18, 2011 7:29 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm on spouse visa (my wife is british) and I've applied for german schengen visa. As I applied for germany tourist visa so germany should be the first landing point. We are going there by train from london to belgium and belgium to berlin.

My question is do I need to apply for belgium visa as well because we are travelling by train via belgium so belgium should be the first landing point.

Please if anyone had such experience in the past please let me know.

Many Thanks

Hi,
My husband got a German schengen visa. Austria was actually the first landing point as we got a connecting flight from there, but as we were only in transit he needed to get the visa from the German embassy and did not need a separate transit visa. I would imagine that if you are only changing trains in Belgium then the same would apply to you, however I could be wrong.

You should have no problem. Ideally keep some evidence that you actually visited Germany, like a hotel receipt or whatever, but you will likely never have to show anybody.

The visas through the German embassy in London seem very nicely straight forward to get.

And as regards the rules for which country your suppose to apply for Schengen visa, the rules say...
You apply for schengen visa for the main destination judged by days spent, or main purpose,
not necessarily the first country of entry.

As Germany is you main destination, that is the where you should apply
for the visa, and the only visa you need.

See Schengen Visa Code

State whose territory constitutes the main destination of the
visit(s) in terms of the length or purpose of stay; or
