Naturalisation Application form - References

Post by trf0412 » Sun Sep 03, 2006 7:53 pm

Just a quick question. My wife has an appointment at our local Nationality Checking Service on Tuesday, and I've just been checking the application form and noticed that one of her referees hasn't put their passport number. I just called them to ask for the passport number, but they're away on holiday for 2 weeks and they told me the passport is locked away at their home.

So, can we get away with sending this number later, or will it simply complicate things? Ideally I would like the process to take a month like many people have reported on this forum. Or will it be the case that the guy at the NCS won't even accept the form, saying it's not complete?

There is actually a box where the referee can put a reason for not supplying the passport number, but of course that's now irrelevant, as the person isn't around to fill it in, and if they were they would be able to access the passport!

Or, alternatively... would the Home Office accept it if I get a third (fully completed) referee on a separate piece of paper and attach it to the application form?

You can never tell, with questions like this, which way the cat will jump, but my own inclination would be a variation on your final option - a third referee, but using the "Additional Information" box on page 14, instead of a separate sheet of paper. Plus a short explanation in the same box saying that this was being done because Mr XXX had omitted to include his passport number when completing his details on the form, and he is away at the moment.

That's my vote, anyway...

Let us know what happens.

If you have used the application form from the web site (i.e. downloaded it and printed it) why dont you just print the referee page and get your third referee to fill it out, then just replace the page?

Good idea! And even if you haven't used the downloadable version of the form, you could still print out that page and get the third referee to fill it in and insert it in the application form, with a note as to the reason for its being there, as suggested above.
