Child tax credits/child benefits for my step children

Post by angie36 » Wed Sep 21, 2011 2:23 pm

Hi

I am new to this forum, and would appreciate some help from the knowledge of the members.
I have been reading the topics but cant quite find the right one for me.

I am married to an Indian who has 3 girls from his previous marrage, he has sole custody from the divorce and I would like to bring them to the UK so we can be a family.

I work full time and own my own house, so i am not claiming any benefits. The question is can I claim working tax credits/child benefits for them, when they arrive in the UK on a settlement visa. If I can, then i assume the claim would have to be a joint claim as we are married, or as i am not the legal guardian, would my husband have to claim for them.

Just to let you know my husband is still in India with the girls.

Many thanks
