Newborn Immigration Requirement

Post by ashlad » Wed Sep 28, 2011 2:50 pm

Hi,

we were blessed with our first baby last week, I m currently on Tier 2 (General) visa along with my wife as dependant for three years expiring in August 2014. I have registered our baby's birth with District Registrar (town hall) office and have acquired his Birth Certificate.

Please could you guide me with the following immigration requirements for my newborn.
1) Do we need to inform UKBA about the child birth.

2) Do we need to apply for our native country's passport for the new born.

3) Do I need to apply Visa for my newborn for him to stay in UK? If yes within how many days should this be done?

4) How much funds do i need to show in the account when appling for the visa and for how long?

5)What documents we need to send to the UKBA in order to apply visa?

Could please guide me so that all our worries are gone.

Any assistance on this matter will be much appreciated.

Kindest Regards,
Ash

1. No.
2. Yes, if you wish the child to have a passport (and to travel overseas).
3. You may wait until such time that the Tier 2 migrant applies for extension, unless the child intends to travel overseas in the interim.
4. See Applications by dependants.
5. As above.

Many Thanks, Sushdmehta. Much appreciated.

please excuse my ignorance, so I can only apply for my baby's leave to remain in UK (if I don't intend to travel abroad) when I proceed with my extension in August 2014 i.e. when my current Tier 2 (General) permit expires?

Best Regards,
Ash

No, you may apply anytime you wish.

What I said was - if your child does not intend to travel overseas between now and when you apply for extension, then you may wait until then (time of your extension) to apply for child's leave.

Your UK-born child does not require a visa to remain in the UK. But he will need it to enter UK .. if he travels abroad.
