Another HSMP Rejection Plz Advice

Post by sherlypk » Tue Jul 13, 2004 8:05 pm

Hi to all !

I Applied from : Pakistan
Qualification : BCS+MCS
Profession : IT(Software Development)
Work Expereice : 4.3 yrs (1 yr as Project Manager-from Jan2003 to todate)
Date Applied : March 18 2004

After long wait, finally got the letter from HO but unfortunately it was not what everyone wishes. They rejected my application on the basis that

"We are not satisified that your previous work experience involved 1 yr senior level work as described in the published guidance. From the evidence provided we cannot confirm what duties and responsibilities were carried out in the position of Project Manager and thus we cannot fully asses that it was of a senior / specialist level."

On the other hand I have mentioned clearly in my Expereince Letter about the responsibilities I carried out as a Project Manager and start and end date of this designation.

One thing more they gave 15 points in qualification and wrote Master Of Arts is not equivalent to British Masters although I mentioned Masters in Computers Science.

Please suggest what to do .? Should I appeal against it and how can one appeal. :?

I am looking forward for all of the senior members precious advice.

Regards ,

Sherly

sherlypk,
I wonder how can u become a program manager in 3 years?? I am also in IT field. Deals with customers & travel abroad in Europe /America at onsite. Have 6 years of IT experience, as currently role is of technical leader to lead small team size of 4-5 people. (Claim only 25 points in exp) .
Program manager in my company takes care of 30-40 people & do all sort of proposal writing/ people management/ man month estimations (cocomo /Delphi wide band style). Did you already start doing such things?

yes I think simar is right. For a project manager you have to show that at least a dozen people work under you. I think you should have quoted your post as project leader saying that you were senior prog before and later promoted to project leader to lead a team of 4-5 people. Also it is seen that the salary also plays its part while defining a senior level.

Did the check the reference no. on a rejection letter? Is this is the same which they allot you on receipt of your application? I think they sent you a wrong letter. You already MCS and they are telling that you have Master degree in Arts, which is totally different. I suggest you to send an email to HSMP peoples and talk them with the reference to your reference no. and clarify your qualification and experience points.

Azher

The Reference # is correct Ajilani but they did a mistake in letter I guess.

Simar, you are right that it is too early to become a Project Manager but it depends on company to company and moreover I got the oppurtunity early in my career.

I was just short of few hundred pounds that's why didn't claim the Salary Point and totally bank upon the Experience to qualify.

I am right now managing ten people teams and involved in making project proposal, time lines and effort estimates.

Please advice what to do next .?

sherlypk,
HO is very finicky about giving senior/specialist level points. To prove your senior level exp one should ideally send specially prepared reference letters from all companies worked for during the senior level exp period stating designation, reporting to, company hierarchy(so that they can determine your level), role & responsibilities wherein you should mention the no of people you were technically/administratively heading and also size of the company (turnover if you like).

This should be on company letter head and signed by appropriate signatory with all contact info for the signatory to allow them to take confirmations if they like.

You may need to get this done and put up the application again. I do not think that the info in your reference letter is enough hence appeal does not make sense for you.

Mini ,

I am working with the same company for last 3 yrs and as mentioned earlier I was promoted to Project Manager Designation in Jan 2003.

I have mentioned in my Experience Letter, strength of company in terms of number of people, the person I am reporting to , my responsibilities and and when I started working on this designation. All this in company letter head and letter was signed by HR Manager.

Please inform whether I missed something in my letter and what other information should have included in the letter.

sherlypk,

It is better for us to send the contents of your work experience letter in order to give a wide chance for judging
