Read Technical change of employment to help you understand if your employer needs to inform UKBA about your promotion and how.

I stand to be corrected but I believe that:
1. If your duties will not change or the job will not be different from your current one, and
2. The salary will not change significantly, and
3. The working hours will not change significantly,
then I guess your employer will not need to inform UKBA about your promotion.

best this is to delay the promotion till you get the ILR. make sure you will meet the salary requirement specified in the Code of Practices.
