transit visa- colombia to uk via madrid

Post by cat_reversing » Sat Oct 08, 2011 8:12 pm

My colombian husband will hopefully get his spouse visa to come to the uk, if he gets 1 ticket from colombia flying via madrid to london does he need a transit visa for when he changes planes in madrid?. He should only be in madrid a few hours and his luggage should be checked through to london. I've tried google to find the answer but couldn't and search isn't working on here for me today.

Yes Colombian nationals require a visa to visit or transit through Spain.

On the below link nationals of A) require visas, nationals of B) do not.

Your husband will need to read through the application requirements here :

Although I recommend he contacts the Spanish Embassy/Consulate in Colombia to be 100% sure, especially if he is approved a UK spouse visa incase it works differently.

In addition, family members of EU citizens are exempt from transit visa requirements in Schengen sone no matter what their nationality. You can read the Shengen visa rules if your not sure. If you are British, your spouse falls into this category.

Be sure you carry your marriage certificate with you.

You can also read through http://eumovement.wordpress.com/2010/08 ... to-travel/ which describes the rights that he has even if he does not have a "required" visa.
