Zia, you will get 15 points for sure. I recommend you to go for NARIC to get a comparability statement.

Dear Afzal

Thank u very much for a quick response.

can i directly send my application to HSMP ? is it necessary to go for NARIC in my case ?

second i am IT professional and i have MCP(Microsoft certified Professional), MCSE(Microsoft Certified System Engineer) and MCDBA(Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) certifications which is recognised internationally. Can i get 15 points of significant achievment due to these certification ?

Zia,

Your qualifications are considered equivalent to a UK bachelors degree = 15 points. You may or may not wish to use NARIC for an equivalency assesment but many posters on the previous board with similar qualifications got 15 points. Needless to say most of them were complaining that they should have got 25 points for having a Masters - the key thing here is that any qualification must be a UK one or comparative to a UK one. Note that applying to NARIC for an equivalency will delay submission of the application to the HSMP team. Also note that NARIC only do an equivalency of education credentials only - do not send them the HSMP application form which is to go to the HSMP Team in Doncaster, UK.

The certifications you hold while helpful in your field of employment are not in themselves a significant achievement. I don't mean to be rude but how many people do you think hold such?

I would advise you to read the HSMP guidance leaflet for clear instructions on the scoring matrix.

Someone in the last forum said to be bachelor equivalent you need to be 12 + 4 years

What about degree like Bachelor of Commerce/Science from India
which is 12 + 3

Are they assessed as bachelors or not?

Now question abt experience.
i have worked as network engineer for 2 yr 1 yr network administrator and 1 yr as System Manager(System Administration Department Head).
Now I am working as Database and Network Specialist as i hold these certifications discussed earlier. will my experience be a specialist or senior role ?
also i am leading a team of 6 peoples and involved in database design, developemt, administration and iplementation and same for network (design, develop, administration, troubleshooting).
i am applying under 28.
Thanks in advance.

My intial opinion is that you are likely to get points at senior level rather than as a specialist - I would need to know your skills set and what you did in the technical role vis a vis that being standard in your industry to evaluate scoring points for being a 'specialist'. Hope that helps.

Kayalami is abs correct in whatever he wrote.

I recommend you to go for NARIC as one of our forum member got 0 points who had a Masters from any UNIV. Punjab who had the same qualification, and on the other hand, one of my friend got 15 points with same number of years. So instead of paying GBP 150, why not spend GBP35 to get a statement and mark yourself for 15 points with no assumptions.

There are 1000s of peoples who have MCSD, OCP and other certifications and its not really significant achievment as per HSMP leaflet. Please go through the examples they mentioned. I myself hold many certs and it will only help once you will be there and hunting for job.

For sure, you will get 35 points of your exp. as you have not worked as a Department head or any Board level position.

Now as you are throwing your question one by one so let me go in advance for you.

To show your earning, you will need to provide atleast two evidence which states that your past 12 months earning are summing up to GBP 5000.

Cheers

Afzal

Senior / Specialist points

Post by Joseph » Tue Mar 16, 2004 9:51 pm

I think you have a fairly good chance of getting 50 points (including 1 year in senior or specialist role), mostly because you are under 28. If you can have your employers include the detailed job descriptions in their letters, your chances would be better.

Hopefully you degrees will get you 15 points giving you a total of 65.

There's only one way to find out for sure--try!
