Evidence of tax for self-employed when NA

Evidence of tax for self-employed when NA

Dear All,
my wife declared as self employed end of last year and currently doing her self assessment on line. However, we due to go to NCS for both AN applications early next week. What should we prepare for her Evidence of tax for self-employed since we do not have any available assessment account statement at the moment. she does pay NI for the past year. Any suggestion? She had been house wife before that.

No one have answer for this. Anybody have similar situation and what you normally do?

Consider what documentation HMRC have already sent you - e.g. notice to complete a self assessment tax return, UTR number letter, any Class 2 NI bills, confirmation of set up of class 2 NI direct debit (if applicable), evidence of payments of class 2 NI via bank statement. Potentially also telephone HMRC to see where they can help.

Also consider that if no tax is yet due then you are not in breach of any tax obligations, potentially explain this/set down a timeline. Of course you can also file & pay the self assessment return before your visit and print out as much evidence of this as you can.

However if you are in the slightest bit unsure it is best to call them for advice - your situation is far from unique so you should get an answer easily enough.
