overstayer apply for new passport?

Post by Hope06 » Wed Sep 27, 2006 4:21 pm

overstayer who lost passport needs to apply for new one in UK.

can a replacement passport be issued to an overstayer?

In doing so will that person risk arrest by giving their details to the embassy?

This is a matter for your Embassy, not the British one, or the HO. I dont think your country will grass you...

Depends on the country. Some embassies will only issue one way travel documents but the replacement passports are issued by a local authority in the residence area/district in the country concerned.

Jeff... interesting, but what does that have to do with the HO? Maybe my 2 brain cells are not working today.

The main issue here is that before you can approach your embassy for a new passport, you will have to report it to the police and get a case number. Most embassies will not replace lost passports without a police report or a sworn testimony from a commisioner of oaths.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

The police would not want to know your status, surely. They would only issue you with the notice of the stolen passport, no?

thank-you for swift responses!

the person is planning to stay in the UK.

the point about the police case number is what i thought.

we want to get married (and have been planning for years) and to apply here (DP3) i think she needs a passport. Also, apparently the CofE (which I am) has recently made a deal with the HO which will also require it.

it is so complicated. why is my life and career in this country jeapordized because i fall in love with a non EEA?

I think they are working ok... maybe mine not :D
No it has nothing to do with the HO. HO can make some arrangements but it is mostly down to the embassy rules, as the HO still has to do it through embassies. Some embassies do not issue new passports in exchange of expired or lost ones. They require a person to return to their country and obtain it from the local authority. They issue temporary passports/travel documents for one way only.

How are you going to prove her immigration status is valid and she is not an overstayer when you apply for COA???
