Well you cannot apply for a British passport, because you are not a British citizen!

What you need to do first is to apply for Naturalisation as British, and once you have your Certificate of Naturalisation, then getting a British passport is little more than a simple form-filling exercise.

It is not clear when you came to the UK, or when you got your ILR. Can you post that information?

Also, are you planning to make a section 6(1) application .... 5 year qualification period ..... or a section 6(2) application as the spouse of a British citizen? Are you still on good terms with your spouse? Would they be willing to let you have their British passport for a couple of days?

If you meet the standard requirements then you may apply for naturalisation on your own merit .... without your spouse's assistance.

A shame you did not apply for your Naturalisation immediately after you got your ILR.

Given your dates you can easily make a section 6(1) 5-year application ..... but for others whose dates are not so favourable .... the spouse does not need to support a section 6(2) 3-year application. But when making application it is necessary to supply either their British passport, or their birth certificate proving they were born in the UK. Accordingly if the British spouse was indeed born in the UK, and you know their date of birth, and place of birth, you can get a copy of their birth certificate, and so make a section 6(2) application.

Yes, you may request documents from HMRC confirming your income and tax paid but upon reading through the information linked above you'll note that P60s / such documents are not required.

Have you followed the links in my previous post?

Why do you insist on documents which are not required? You don't need to provide any employment related evidence when applying for naturalisation.
