Update on application - Egyptian Spouse Visa

Post by Abelel » Sun Dec 04, 2011 11:14 am

Hi,

I'm also reading these boards with anticipation and appreciate everyone putting their experience up for others.

So far my husband applied online in Cairo on November 5th and handed the documents in to Worldbridge at his appointment on the 9th November. I've just had the phonecall from the Embassy in Cairo today (4th December). I was expecting it this week because of the timescales and guidance suggested on this forum.

I was expecting an interview (10 mins or more) but was only asked if it was me on this number I had given them (yes), am I still the sponsor for my husband (yes) and am I still waiting for him to come to the UK (yes). That was it. Then she said, Ok and that was the end of the call. I was expecting more and then got a bit worried because it was so 'blink and you miss it' that I wonder if I should have said more after the call had ended. But I know they won't tell me processing times etc, so we'll just keep waiting.

Just wanted to contribute our experience anyway, as other people's have helped us.

Thanks!

Hi Adelel

They dont seem to have asked you a lot but may be because they dont feel they needed to. I know that from speaking to people on here they are extremely busy in Cairo and its generally taking 60 working days including holidays (5 working days a week) so for all us we have to wait until the 60 days until we can contact worldbridge if we have not had a response. I know its hard waiting, I am wishing my life away at the moment. My 60 working days inc hols is on the 12th January

Wish you all the best xxx

Hi,

I didn't realise it was 60 working days. I just thought 60 days so 2 months, meaning early January. I guess if it's 60 working days we won't hear until 1st Feb '12, or later if there are any additional holidays which I don't know about.

My husband is so optimistic that maybe we'll hear before Chistmas (he knows someone who found out within a week) but I'm not :(. Everyone on here seems to be on roughly the same timescales.

Anyway, the wait won't matter if it's successful so Insh'allah for us all!

Xx

Hi Adebel,

Wow a week, I know that could happen a few years ago but i dont know of anyone at the moment. Yes sorry but it might be nearer to the beginning of feb. If you look on the worldbridge website it will tell you the holidays
about 3-4 for eid last month
1 day for election day last week
2 days for xmas
1 day for NYE are the ones I have to consider

Was the person he knew wiating for a spouse visa or a visit visa? Also was it recent

It was earlier this year, after the revolution also. Can't remember exactly but I think April time. I was over in May and he had just got it and was preparing to go to UK. It was a spouse visa. Really unusual from what I can read here and also the timescales given by Worldbridge. I'm not expecting ours to be like that.

71 and 65 from 12 is quite a jump! They are busy indeed. I guess they are getting a lot more applications.

Have held off getting my ticket for winter holidays in Egypt, but think I'll just go for it now. Chances it will be the other way around are pretty non-existant.

Yes, I was also expecting from London because of the discussion on here, but she definately said Cairo.

Who knows what it all means :? The whole thing has been a bit of a guessing game so far...

I hope we all hear soon and can get on with living our lives with our loved ones :)

Yes it is a guessing game.

Maybe you were not asked as much because it was from cairo and they have your file there. In london they dont have any of our info and seem to asked questions that are set as everyone had the same questions asked pretty much

i am so confused about this 60 day thing lol when we submitted our application thay said 12 weeks, so technically that is 90 days, so is it really working days? they said if we heard nothing in 12 weeks, we can phone them, also says that on the website as well. so if that is the case our 60 days is up this week!

maybe i am just clutching at straws, because im so desperate to have my hubby home!

It says this on the UKBA website:

We have service standards for processing UK visa applications. Our standards say that we will process:

....(cut bit)

and 95 per cent of settlement applications within 12 weeks of the application date and 100 per cent within 24 weeks of the application date.

Please note that we define 1 week as 5 working days.

So 12 weeks is 60 working days if 1 week is 5 working days.

Didn't reckon on it being this long either, but I guess it is.

Hi,

Yes, they called on Sunday morning. I guess if the calls are coming from London, they won't come on the weekend because government etc doesn't work on the weekend, but in Egypt they work on Sundays and my call was from Cairo so that makes sense.

I hope you get yours soon too!

abelel is right sunday is normal working day in Egypt, they closed fri and sat.
i just dont understand how it takes so long to make a decision, they must know as soon as they speak to us and look at all documents we have supplied. after speaking to people on here we were hoping for a decision really quickly after the phonecall but it has been 5 weeks now
hope we all get a decision very soon

FINALLY
GOOD NEWS

My wife just received her passport with 2 years and 3 month spouse visa dated from 24/11/2011

Good luck to everyone still waiting for the outcome, I am going to Egypt over Christmas as my wife will give birth in Egypt soon Inshallah.

I am not sure why they stamped her passport with 2 years and 3 month instead of normal 2 years.

Good Luck

Congratulations!!

I think the 'probationary' period is 27 months now instead of 24 so I guess that's why your wife's visa is for this period.
