English requirements for marriage visa

One of my friend came to uk on visit visa and as he is very good in English he passed life in uk test here and got certificate then he went back to country and later he married with British girl.
Now he wants to apply for marriage visa but the question is can he use his life in the uk certificate for his spouse visa or he needs to take another esol or tofel English test any ideas plz share thanks
