What exactly do you want to know? Technically, the employer doesn't have to pay for your Tier 1 extension. I am of course assuming that you paid for it on your own for the initial application. If your employer paid for the initial application, they should perhaps be willing to pay for an extension as well.

Having said that, some employers can be generous and there is no harm in asking. I would start by asking your manager.

If you want to claim it back, do remember that you won't get a receipt for the application fee if you apply by post. All you get is the acknowledgement letter. You should check with finance if they are happy to accept your claim based on this acknowledgement and printout of Tier 1 (General) application fee webpage on UKBA website. If you are paying by card, you could also provide the bank/credit card statement. My employer was happy with these.

Thanks kirankaja12, but I think I should have been more specific. I meant for people who run their own limited companies and are employed through such companies. Can we put a tier-1 application down as a company expense (and claim tax back for it)?

Hi Theroyale

I know form your earlier post that you had an appointment today.
How was it buddy?

Hope everything went well.
Share your experience in brief, if you can.

Cheers

You can try, as long as your accountant agress with that.

Yep... Accountant's might disagree but it should still be covered by law.

Best speak to your accountant on this one as the first port of call theroyale - they'll give some explanation behind how it should/shouldn't be treated.

Out of interest QuickSam, could you elaborate a little further on your answer above pls?

I had discussed this with my accountant and got the following response:

"Unfortunately as this expense is not solely business related and as such it cannot be classed as a business expense."

Do let me know if some other accountant has a different thought.
