Hi-When did 75 pts for attributes change to 80 pts?? If this keeps changing how do I know I meet the pts when I apply for extension??

This sounds very frustating :( ...I too have the same situation....1 yr back I was qualified with 75/75 points, today I am not qualified becuase I scored 75/80 points. Though my salary, education etc. remains the same.

What if now I get a job with a higher salary band and I score 80/80, and at the moment of posting my extn. application UKBA changes the qualifying points to 85, do they still fail me, or will they be a accomodating?

Hey - Sorry to have jumped in, but when did this change? I still see
75 points as mandatory for my TIER 1 General Extension.

Initial - 24/03/2009
Expires - 23/03/2012

Am I missing something here???

Thanks,
R

If you had to earn 75 points during your initial application, you need to earn 75 for extension. If you had to earn 80 points for your initial application, you need to earn 80 points for extension.

This has always been the case and never changed (only the calculator was out of date for a while). The guidance and rules have always specified this in one form or another.

@arnie365 - Only reason I see is you have gotten the visa after April 2010 and this cpuld be the reason it has changes, but again, I'm no expert at this so I suggest you seek kegal advice. Another sign is, you're on 2+3 visa format as to mine 3+2 format. On more positive note, you have good 10 months to get this straight. Good luck mate x

I agree to it.
I think the issue is because of below:

On 19th July, 2010, rules changed and new rules required 80 points for fresh Tier 1 application.
Anyone who applied after 19th July, 2010 and checked what he required for extension (sometime after 19th July,10 till Dec,11), it was showing that you require 75 points.

Something changed from the backend and now it reverted back to 80 points since Jan, 12 for applicants who got their first application after 19th July, 2010.
Not sure about the exact dates when it got reverted but I can assure you that earlier it was 75 points even for applications filed after 19th July, 2010 but now it shows 80 points because I checked it multiple times in the past one year and it was 75 points but now it is 80 points.

Have you ever read the very first bit on the calculator page under the heading Disclaimer?
We do not guarantee that the points shown by the calculator reflect the full policy or that they are fully up-to-date .... If you wish to make an application under the Points Based System, you must always refer to the latest relevant policy and guidance documents for the full details.

mulderpf is right! I should have seen this a year back and not relied entirely on the calculator!:-((
I will be running short of 5k when I apply for an extn. Trying very hard for a job change...Is there any suggestion for a weekend IT job which can help me get some extra earnings over the next 6-8 months, as long as having a 2nd job is legal as per HMRC rules??

I think what criteria you have used while applying first time you need the same criteria in the extension. Even if you use the PBC in UKBA website it will prove the same.
all the best.

Hi Arnie,

Yes you can get as many jobs as you need to fill the income requirement. I have managed to secure an employer bonus to bring me up to the minimum income threshold - if you have an understanding employer perhaps you could try to negotiate something similar (in lieu of time off, future bonus/pay raise, etc). Otherwise just be sure you are informed of the increased burden of proof for declaring self-employment (SE) earnings if you end up doing contract IT work. I was self-employed initially and gave it up to find a salaried job because I was paid in cash and wouldn't have met the burden of proof for SE earnings.

Best of luck! Time is on your side for now.
