Indian Passport Renewal - URGENT

Hi Guyz,
My Friend's UK Visa (Tier-1 extension) is due on 01 March 2012
and his Indian passport expires on 01 May 2012.

If he applies for Indian passport directly and it takes more than three weeks, his UK visa will expire.

If he applies for UK Visa first then his passport will not satisy the requirement that his passport should be valid for atleast 6 months. (First of all is there any rule like that?)

I hope you got the situation. Suggestions please.

There is no rule to say when you apply for extension, your passport should be valid for 6 months.
