Can Tier 1 Dependent work in UK?

Post by stalwar » Sun Feb 12, 2012 4:46 pm

Hi, I have a Tier 1 (General) visa and I am now applying for a dependent visa for my wife.

Is the dependent of a Tier 1 allowed to work in the UK?

I think they are but I have found nothing on the UKBA website to support this. I would really appreciate if someone could point out the relevant link from UKBA where this is mentioned.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Greenie,
Thanks for the prompt reply. I did go through the page from the dependent policy guidance you mentioned and I have quoted the relevant section below.
Sorry for being so pedantic but the guideline only mentions that NO employment is possible as a Doctor etc but does not say that any other kind of employment is possible.

Am I to infer that other kind of employment is allowed and legal?

No Employment as a Doctor or Dentist in Training, unless the
applicant ;
1. has obtained a primary degree in medicine or dentistry from a
UK institution that is a UK recognised or listed body, or which holds
a sponsor licence under Tier 4 of the Points Based System; or
2. is applying for leave to remain and has, or has last been
granted, entry clearance, leave to enter or leave to remain that
was not subject to a condition restricting their employment,
whether that is employment as a Doctor or Dentist in Training or
otherwise, and has been employed during that leave as a Doctor
or Dentist in Training.
