We have separate bank accounts but my wife does not have the funds in her account. I have maintained over £5000 in my savings account for over an year so would that suffice for her extension or does she need to have the money in her account?

Well if you are main applicant and your wife is dependent, then you can show the fund maintenance in your bank account for her visa extension.
