Bank Account for Asylum seeker?

Ive been asked to look into this for an Asylum seeker

They have been given permission to activate a phone line in the house for internet, but they need to set up a direct debit. No one else can do it on their behalf as the addresss obviously wont match up to anyone elses bank account details!

Any way the can open a bank account - very simple, no debit/credit cards - just to set up a DD?

you can contact to bank in order to open a bank account but i think while your asylum claim is in process you are not legally entitled to open either a bank or building society account but once HO grant your asylum or leave to remain and immigration status documents are given to you , then you are legally able to have an account with a bank and building society
