Taking Life in UK Test while on a visit visa

Post by SimonJJ » Mon Mar 05, 2012 12:51 pm

My Thai wife is currently visiting me in the UK prior to returning to Thailand and then applying for a Settlement to the UK.

While she is in the UK I have been advised that it is a good idea for her to take the Life in the UK test however for her to register for the test she needs to have proof of address in the UK. How can she have proof of address if she doesn't currently live here?

It's not necessary to be a resident of the UK to take this test. Many people have visited the UK and done what you are suggesting. Please elaborate on what actual proof (the type and style of the paperwork) is being suggested.

I think the new registration leads one to think you need to be able to give address details, unlike the old days. So it does lead you to believe you have to be resident

Nevertheless, it's not a mandatory requirement so listing a hotel or relative/friends address should be sufficient.

That was ok in the old days but how do you show your name and address on the document as shown on the online registration .

take any letter that may have come on your name at the address together with your passport, I think this should be sufficient.

Think the point is if you are a visitor you will not have the official documents required . Would be interesting to see if anyone who recently took it had to show resident proof, years ago you just showed a passport and gave them the PO code and no questions asked !

I think this is all dependent on the test centres, just try a different one if they are giving you a headache.

It is booked on line so you can not just try another centre!
