Extension period?

Post by yokie » Mon Mar 12, 2012 6:18 pm

Initial grant was in July 2010 - 2 years
I am applying for the first extension now.

For how many years will I get the visa? Does the period vary from case to case?

Regards
Jim

If you were given 2 years in your initial grant, then you would normally get it extended for 3 years.

Why did you say normal? Is that on case to case basis

Prior to 2010, the T1 visas that were granted were for 3 yrs initially. Hence the extension they get is for 2 yrs.

Yes. But if you apply early it will be a grant of exactly three years from the time the application is approved. They will not aggregate unexpired time from your previous leave. So I suggest that by applying now when you leave expires in July, you will be creating a gap that needs a further extension.

Don't worry about the fee increase as you have no control over it. If you extend now, you might need to extend again prior to ILR and that would mean that you'd end up paying nearly 180% fee.
