Post by rajan_j2009 » Mon Nov 06, 2006 6:16 pm

I'm a indian citizen currently working in usa has a software engineer on work permit.I'm very much interested to work in uk for sometime. I have more than six years of experience in software industry of which 3 years in usa and 2 years in singapore.
Pls guide me the steps in obtaining a work permit.
1.Do I need some sponsor or job offer to apply for uk visa and work permit?.Can I apply on my own .If I can What is the procedure and fees involved.
2.How long is the work permit valid?.
3.When is the new visa application form are collected for processing?.
Appreciate your reply.

Hi,

You can apply for the HSMP - Highly skilled Migrant Visa. It is equivalent to the WP in the U.K. and allows you to work professionally.

tHE FEE IS £315.00. Check more info on their website.

The weblink : www.workinginthuk.gov.uk, search for HSMP and details.

Ride on boy.

Wish you well.

Thanks for the info.
Could you point me to some job portals to look out for job opportunities in IT field.
Thanks,

I am not sure that is quite right. A WP allows a person to work only for the employer named in the WP. Compared to ..... having got HSMP the person can work for any employer, without the employer needing to go to the bother of getting a WP.

So HSMP is far better than WP .... HSMP is equivalent to a sort of document that does not actually exist .... a WP to work for any employer in the country.

Hi Guys,
I'm kind of asking this question again is it possible to get a work permit approved without any sponsor or employment .I mean application on my own without any job offer.
If anyone has prospective employers or consultants list who hires foreign national for consulting opportunities plz pass it on.
Thanks,
Rajan

You cant get wp on your own. The only way is HSMP.
