Hi,
I and my fiancee currently are in the process of readying our application for a fiancee visa so she can join me here in the UK. I am a UK citizen. I have looked into the application and it says something about you have to have proof that you intend to marry within the 6 month visa period. To do this I guess you have to set a date to marry at the registrars office but I can't see how you can do this until the fiancee is here in the UK! I saw that you first have to give notice to get married but both parties need to be staying in the area of the registrars office for 1 week or something like that. I did read something about maybe showing wedding invites..places you'd booked for a reception, etc..but I don't want to do that until I am sure we get the visa and I know exactly when we can get married. It seems like a bit of a catch-22 situation to me...but I think...no..I am sure I am missing something simple..or have something wrong...help!! I would be grateful if anyone could put me straight on this...and I'd be interested in hearing from someone who's been through the whole process and knows the dos and don'ts...and what is needed and what isn't. I'd especially like to know about this in regard to the proof of funds to support the fiancee in the UK...what exactly is needed..and also about having accomodation too. Right now I am living with my dad but the place is too small for someone else..plus..I want some privacy when my fiancee arrives of course! Basically I think I will have to rent a place before we make the application just to show I have somewhere we can live. If anyone has any ideas about how I can get around that without wasting 3 months rent or more before she gets the visa and arrives then I'll be really grateful for any advice too. Cheers!
