Tier 1 Extention - Self emplyed + Employed - No Invoices

Post by suni97 » Sun Mar 18, 2012 9:22 pm

Hi,
My Tier1 general migrant visa is due for renewal in March.

I am working (employed) and have taken up self employment to achieve the required points

I have a business account and registered with HMRC, have filed and paid tax last year as well as regularly paid NI (quarterly).

However, while working as self employed some of my clients paid me in cash which I would deposit immediately in my bank account.

As a proof of income from self employment I have the following documents

1) Profit and loss statement from a registered accountant
2) Bank statements
3) Letter from accountant
4) NI receipts
5) Tax receipt for tax paid in previous year
6) HMRC business registration number

Although I do not have the invoice copies with me. Would the above evidence suffice........Is submitting invoice mandatory??

Please help!

Yes. Submitting invoices in your case is must. See Policy Guidance Section 114 sub section (X)

I think it is mandatory to submit the invoices, in case if UKBA decides to cross verify them. Wait till you hear from someone who has or is going to apply as SE.

Thanks,

you have to submit invoices, even the accountant wont be able to give a letter confirming your earnings, am surprised how he did in your case.

since your payments were in cash so you need to be more careful. CW may think you withdrew some money from your own different account & deposited in this 1.

how will your customer do their accounts if you dont give them invoices ?!?

Cash payments are always tricky, they cant be substantively verified from bank statements alone so include a contract agreement with your customers as well. if you dont have it then just bang 1 up for services you provided to your customers over the last year

Hi Manka,
Thanks alot for your advise.

I have misplaced the invoice papers and its getting difficult to contact clients, besides not too sure if they will be bothered to acknowledge any letters or queries

However the only customer I can get hold of lives in the same house as mine as I live in a shared house.

Can I submit a copy of contract with him??

Would appreciate your advise as am running short of time

Yes Invoices are compulsory to submit otherwise you will be refused so be on the safe side and submit it.
If you have misplace asked for another copy from ur clients else you will be in trouble as now adays
they just need an excuse and even in some cases they just refused for none. :P
