time limit for surrendering indian passport

Can someone please tell me regarding the time limit for two things:

1) surrerendering indian passport after obtaining UK citizenship.
2) obtaining OCI card after getting surrender certificate

1. I think it is 3 months.

can anyone give me any more info on this? The website doesnt specify a time limit but does say that travelling on indian passport after getting british passport incurs fee (i am not planning to travel)

but it also says there is a fine for retianing passport for 3 years after acquiring british citizenship. does this mean that one has upto three years to surrender indian passport or is there another time limit!
