Education Points refused :: please advise

Post by gsrhsmp » Wed Nov 08, 2006 11:38 am

Hello All, Thanks for sparing time to read this.

Basically, I have recently got a rejection for my appplication and the reason given was that they can not grant any points for my degree because it has not been awarded yet. So they have only given me 15 points and I had claimed 25 for my masters. Hence I was short by 10 points. Though I have completed the degree in October 2005. But, I would be attending my graduation ceremony in February 2007, as unfortunately I missed the last one in Feb2006. I discussed this with my consultant prior to submitting the application and I was adcised that I should include a letter from the university to suffice that I have completed the degree and will be attending this ceremony with my father in feb. And this should be enough. So, I did exactly as I was told and also gave the final semester MA transcript, along with the contact details for the head of the department for any further clarification, that may be required. He has clearly stated in the letter that I have finished the degree and they contact him for any further clarifications.

Now, this refusal is come as a shock for both of us, but according to the consultant and they are still positive of getting it overturned in review. I request the moderators and the specialists here for any advise regarding this issue. Also, if anyone has faced a similar situation and got an approval then please do tell me? I need to know if there is practically any chance to get this decision overturned or I am waiting for nothing.

Thanks!

They will be looking for the word "awarded" or "conferred" if you got any letter from university

Saying as "Completed" is not enough

This is why many times even provisional certificates given instead of Final degree getting rejected since it wont have word like "awarded" or "conferred"

Thanks for the reply!!

but do you mean to say the review will be rejected as well then ?

I have just verified on the copy of that letter that it says "successfully completed" instead of "awarded" . Shall I get another letter from that person (head of department) for clarification? would they accept any clarification from him?

I think I shouldn't have mentioned about the future graduation ceremony where in feb 2007 and that I will be getting my degree then in the letter.
I am really dissapointed as I just did as I was told and the text for that letter was approved by my consultant before I got it signed.

Do you see any chance at all of gettin the review in my favour? I have read somewhere in the guidelines that they accept clarifications while appealing against their decision and asking for a review, isnt that true?

Dear gsrhsmp,

I can understand your position.

But it is clearly wriiten in the guidance notes, for people who have passed the degree around or more then year back, they need to provide the original final degree certificate.

Cheer!
