My Dad wishes to travel on The Irish Short-stay Visa Waiver

Post by brummie » Fri Apr 13, 2012 9:39 pm

My Dad is coming this may 2012 to visit me in the U.K. on a 6mts family visit visa. Can he travel to Republic of Ireland as a tourist under the 'The Irish Short-stay Visa Waiver Programme'?

Under the Programme, persons
(i) who are nationals of one of sixteen countries covered by the scheme,
(ii) who have entered the UK on foot of a UK ‘C’ General visa, and
(iii) have been granted leave to remain in the UK for up to 180 days,
may
(iv) travel to Ireland, within the time remaining on a current leave to remain in the UK, without the requirement to obtain an Irish visa, and
(v) be granted permission to remain in Ireland up to a maximum of 90 days or the time left on their UK leave to remain, whichever is the shorter.

I did not understand the (ii) point - 'UK 'C' general visa'.

Does point 3 in the attached make sense to you? If you are uncertain, email a scan of the relevant visa to an Irish consulate.

I hope you understand that it only applies to certain nationals.

Best of luck.
