English Req-Please read: It is response from HSMP Team

Post by mcu » Sat Nov 25, 2006 8:53 am

Hi,
I asked HSMP team about english requirement. It seems they are kidding? Please comment on that.

Dear Applicant

Thank you for your email. The guidelines says that a Bachelors Degree
equivalent to a British. A British bachelors is 3 years. Otherwise you
will have to sit the English test.

Regards

hsmp team

criteria. The guidance notes about HSMP say that if applicant is not providing
IELTS certificate then he must provide evidance that Bachelor degree is
taught in English. My question is that I have done master degree which
is equivent to Bachelor degree of UK. If I apply, should I provide
evidance of my Master degree was taught in English? Do I have to provide
any evidance of my Bachelor degree as well?

Hi MCU,

It seems, both the response are from different executives of HSMP team.
And seems they have a completely different set of interpretation to the HSMP guidelines. Such response makes the applicant's to think twice before applying.
I too got really confused seeing the response.

All, Pls. share your thought on this.

Thanks,
NNJ10

I do not see anything wrong with the response from the Home Office. It takes 3 years to complete a Bachelors degree in a UK university after 'A' levels. So if u have a degree of a university in a lesser time frame than that of the British uni, then your then your degree will not be regarded as being equivalent to a UK degree.

Hi,
The problem is a kind of fix. If some one has a master degree which is equivalent bachelor here, he is not allowed to show evidence of english from his university. I will say it is nonesense. So only option left is IELTS.

suppose if I get less than 6 in first attempt, Can I do another attempt?

Is there is any restriction in IELTS or HSMP on number of tests been attended?

Actually I done bachelors degree in English.. But I completed that before 6 years in a Big Indian university. I seriously doubt how much co-operative will that university be, in issuing the letter wanted by me.

mcu,

I think the response from the HSMP team is not 100% correct. The HSMP guidance document state that English requirements requires BOTH a Bachelor degree certificate AND letter from the University stating that all the courses were taught in English.

I am now getting a hard time getting such letter, since it is out of the ordinary and NONE of the USA university ever issued such letter. I mean, I lived in US, an English speaking country... what the heck do they need to get this letter for?

Response from university

Post by crazyjack » Mon Dec 04, 2006 7:16 am

Hi Guys,

I have completed my engineering from college XXX which comes under university YYY.

I have approached my University to issue the letter mentioning that the course has been taught in english. They are saying that as I have completed my curriculum from the XXX college so they will not be issuing any letter related to my curriculum and I have to approach to college to get such letter.

As degree awarding body is "YYY". I am confused if the letter issued by college will be acceptable by HO.

I have written a mail to caseworkers asking the same queries but haven't received any response yet. If anybody having the same situation please suggest about their improvements.
