You can apply from inside the UK if your current leave is valid. They may want to see evidence that you are still studying within the conditions of your student visa. Not having done so for 8 months might (not will) be a problem.

According to the guidance, you had 60 days to find a new sponsor from the date your college was closed, or to leave the UK, otherwise your immigration status becomes irregular. Therefore your current visa is anything but current (even though it has a stated expiration in 2013). In such circumstances, you were not permitted to simply do nothing yet remain in the UK for the full term of your visa.

People who have tried to apply for leave to remain in the FLR(M) category, and when they have not been complying with the conditions of their current leave, have been refused. You can make an application and take your chances but you should at least be prepared for the possibility of a refusal. Good luck.

It's entirely your decision as to how you proceed. I would prefer you to take competent advice from an immigration professional, as that way you'll get specific advice rather than general, non-specific, indications.
